Much like the Wikis you are familiar with, Toiletpedia is always a work in progress. The content comes directly from the community at large – contributing, refining and refining again until entries attain the highest level of integrity.

Originally launched by a team of experts at American Standard Brands, we want to emphasize our commitment to creating a tool for the public that is balanced and representative of the industry as a whole. Our goal is to seek the factual integrity of all entries. We hope that the community will contribute entries – we invite you to do so. This page offers a tutorial to help generate content

Getting Started with Pages and Content

Typically, each topic should have its own Page. The name of the page should be something easily recognizable and relate to the content of the article. For example, one would expect a Page named "Trap" to be about the different kinds of traps and their uses. It might be briefly mentioned on other Pages related to plumbing fixtures or pipes with an additional link to the main article/page called "Trap".

Content should be entered as plain text with attention paid to line breaks as they will get converted to HTML after saving. Although HTML formatting is allowed, it is better to use the Wiki's pre-established formatting tags as they will reflect any future style or structural changes.

Formatting, Organizing and Linking Between Pages

The rule of thumb for formatting and organizing content on a page is to make it easy-to-scan. In many cases, the user of the site will be looking for a specific section of an article, so being able to quickly scan or navigate to that section is essential. For other cases, where the whole article will be read, divisions between sections and “scanability” is still important as it helps guide the reader through the article.

This page serves as a general example of how a Page should be divided. There is an introductory section that overviews the article, followed by sections of more detailed information - some of which contain subsections as well. Some sections contain links to other Pages. This linking between sections builds a more robust and useful site.
